José Vieira graduated in economics from the Instituto Superior de Economia e Gestão (Universidade Técnica de Lisboa). He obtained his masters in economics at the Faculdade de Economia da Universidade Nova de Lisboa in 1992. In 1999 he concluded a Ph.D. in economics at the University of Amsterdam. He is currently affiliated with the University of the Azores. His work is published in among others Labour Economics, Empirical Economics, Empirica, Applied Economics, Journal of Labor Research, and Labour. His current research interests are wage inequality, wage mobility, returns to education, job satisfaction and job quality. He has also published some papers on tourism and is member of the Editorial Board of Tourism Economics.
