Dr. Hanna Virtanen is a Chief Research Scientist and an Academy Research Fellow at ETLA Economic Research, Helsinki, Finland. She is an Associate at the Centre for Economic Performance at London School of Economics and a co-editor in Kansantaloudellinen aikakauskirja (KAK), which is a Finnish language journal of the Finnish Economic Association.
She received her Ph.D. from Aalto University in 2016. Her research focuses on topics such as causes and consequences of schooling choices, skill development, social exclusion and the future of the labor market. She has published research articles in journals such as American Economic Journal: Applied Economics and Journal of Public Economics.
Hanna Virtanen joined IZA as a Research Fellow in May 2023.
