Gilles Saint-Paul is Professor of Economics at GREMAQ-IDEI, Université des Sciences Sociales de Toulouse since September 2000 and a fellow of the Centre for Economic Policy Research. He previously held a position as Professor of Economics at Universitat Pompeu Fabra, Barcelona, Spain. He received his B. Sc. from Ecole Polytechnique in 1985 and his PhD in economics from MIT in 1990. His publications include "Dual Labor" Markets (MIT Press, 1996), "The political economy of labor market institutions" (Oxford University Press, 2000), and publications in international journals such as theAmerican Economic Review,Journal of Political Economy,Quarterly Journal of Economics,Journal of Economic Theory,Economic Journal,Journal of Public Economics,Journal of Development Economics, and theEuropean Economic Review. He has served as a consultant for the IMF and the Swedish parliamentary committee on labor market policy, as well as the French ministry of environment. He has been a member of the French "Commission Economique de la Nation", an advisory body for the French finance minister.

He joined IZA as a Research Fellow in October 1999.
